My favorite Coffee in Ellensburg

I love a good cup of coffee, so whenever I venture into Ellensburg I always stop by one of the several D&M Coffee locations. The coffee is smooth and rich with lots of fragrance. D&M is a locally owned company and has been roasting beans since 1990. They use premium imported Arabic beans and they are smooth. Check out their website for all their locations and make sure you stop at one of them and try a cup for yourself.

Ellensburg Blues – more than a sad story

When you hear of anything with “The Blues” in it you tend to assume it is a sad or tragic think. Well Ellensburg Blues are far from sad. They are a special gem found only in the Lower County of Kittitas County. This beautiful blue stone is truly one of a kind in it’s vast shapes and shades of blue. This use to be a little hidden secret to locals in the area but as they say the secret is out. King 5’s evening magazine recently did a segment on this unique gem and the area I so love. Check out the full story here. https://www.king5.com/article/news/a-rare-stone-thats-only-found-in-one-eastern-washington-town-where-to-hunt-for-ellensburg-blues/281-582048546

If you have the desire to find one of these hidden treasure put it on your calendar for this spring. There is lots of public land that you can hunt for these rare gems or you can take a private excursion with

Rock n’ Tomahawk Ranch which allows people to hunt their 200 plus acres for blues for 5 dollars, to make a reservation call (509) 962-2403. Ireland Jewelers in Cle Elum makes finished pieces using Ellensburg blues, 111 E 1st St, Cle Elum, WA 98922. You will enjoy this unique outing in Kittitas County.

Movie Night in Roslyn

Wondering what to do on a January Saturday night in Kittitas county? The holiday are over and you maybe a bit partied out. That is ok, there is a lot of great things to do in Kittitas County.  This is the time of year I like to catch a movie. If you are in the Upper County (West of Throp) then you will want to check out the Roslyn Theater. http://www.roslyntheatre.com/

This historic icon is located at 101 Dakota Street in Roslyn. Jan Donaldson was the one who saw the vision and need and created a very cozy and intimate movie theatre. It became an instant success to the residents of the town of Roslyn, Washington.  Ms. Donaldson and her family members continue to operate this theatre, to this day. It continues to play first run films, as it always has. No sub-runs for this house!!! The seating capacity is just about 100 or less with some love seat seating available. It advertises that it is the only theatre to allow patrons to bring their dogs to the theatre with them. It recently went through some much needed renovations. The owner did not have the funds to convert to digital media and the community rallied and did a fundraiser to save the theater. This amazing little place has been around for almost 40 years. If you get the opportunity to visit it, purchase the balcony tickets and you must add the yeast to your popcorn. Currently The Mule, starting Clint Eastwood is playing.

Snowmobiling in Kittitas County

I spent New Years Day exploring Cooper Lake on my snowmobile. I forget how lucky I am to live here in Kittitas County where we have access to thousands of acres of public land to enjoy. The snow was perfect, although a more experienced rider would have probably thought we needed a few more feet. It was so great to get outdoors and smell the crisp air. There are so many great places to ride throughout the county. To get accurate information on where you can ride check out the WA State Snowmobile association’s website at http://www.wssa.us/ this website will help guide you on places to ride and which trailed are groomed.

If you don’t own a snowmobile but would like to try it sometime I highly recommend you try one of our local rental companies. Motor Toys is a local company located in Cle Elum and offer a variety of rentals to meet all your needs. Check them out here http://motortoysofcleelum.com/

Keep in mind that many of our state snow parks require a pass to park there so make sure you check to make sure you have the right pass. You can check on https://www.discoverpass.wa.gov/

I hope you get the opportunity to get out and enjoy all Kittitas County has to offer.
